皆既日食がスーパームーンと春分の日に重なった

total solor _eclipse ― 「皆既日食」
coincide ― 「（時間的に）一致する」
spring equinox ― 「春分の日」。「秋分の日」はautumnal equinox。

The end is nigh, Engadget readers: a triumvirate of celestial events is happening simultaneously. Okay, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but until we hit the other side of today's supermoon, spring equinox (yay!) and total solar eclipse, we just won't know.

春分の日が、なんで yay! ？

3つ重なる手前で「もういっちょ！」とか「リーチ！」ってな表現かな？アツいな英語。

As The Wall Street Journal tells it, this sort of thing is "extremely unusual." Total solar eclipses -- where the moon plays middleman and blocks the sun from our view -- happen about once every year-and-a-half. Supermoons and the equinox? A handful of times per year and once annually, respectively.

ウォールストリートジャーナルによれば、この事象が同時にあるのは「非常に珍しい」と。皆既日食 ― 月が太陽を隠してしまう現象 ― が、半年に一回しかない、春分の日にあるなんて。スーパームーンと春分でさえ、それぞれ毎年、年に一度とか数回なのだから。

middleman ― 「中間業者」、「仲介人」
annually ― 「毎年」
respectively ― 「それぞれ」

月を擬人化したような表現が面白い。日本語でも「お月様」という表現があるけど、英語でも同じなんですね。

全体的に、日本語だと簡潔に書けるのに、英語だと表現が長い印象を受けたな。
