In a blog post today, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said he was expecting a baby girl with his wife Priscilla Chan, who is a physician. Personal news is not really our forte, but since I did baby announcements for Jerry Yang (see: “Finally, Some Good News: A New Baby for Jerry Yang!”) and Marc Andreessen (see: “Marc Andreessen’s Latest Startup Needs a Diaper Change”), I can hardly stop now — especially considering the headline pun possibilities.

In his post, Zuckerberg talked about the difficulty he and his wife had conceiving, with three miscarriages, which was very touching and should prompt a lot of online discussion.

個人的なニュースは、まったく私たちの得意なことではないのですが、 Jerry Yang(「最後にちょっと良いニュース:Jerry Yangに赤ちゃん!」) と Marc Andreessen(「Marc Andressemnの最新スタートアップはおむつを替えることを求めている」) の赤ちゃんの発表をおこなったことから、私は今、特に、見出しが語呂合わせである可能性の想定を止められそうにありません。

Wrote Zuckerberg:

We want to share one experience to start. We’ve been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way.

You feel so hopeful when you learn you’re going to have a child. You start imagining who they’ll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they’re gone. It’s a lonely experience. Most people don’t discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you — as if you’re defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own.

In today’s open and connected world, discussing these issues doesn’t distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope.

Well, very good news today and very good wishes from Re/code. (Also, nice shag-rug dog!)
